Thor and I are moving out of the Rental and are starting a new adventure. Check us out at iLiveInMyVan.com.
One of the things that appealed to me about having the house burn down was that I could start afresh. There were many things that I knew that I should get rid of, but doing so is time-consuming and making decisions about which "perfectly good" things to get rid of is very difficult for me. The fire sort-of solved that. At first I didn't want anything more than things that were of obvious sentimental value like the family clock or immanently practical like my passports.
This was from long ago, but I'm just getting to posting it. The pictures I took are pretty bad.

You know, I'd been wondering why Jay keeps taking us to weird places
instead of going home. It's really been bumming me out. Well,
yesterday, he took me back home and I checked things out. I guess I
don't want to stay their either. Here's a shot of me going in the
front door. Let me just say that the place certainly didn't smell
right.
The entry hall seemed a bit messy,so I walked on down the hall.
Monday I got keys to the temporary house, took a few things over, and tried to imagine my life there. Three of the six students in my class didn't make it to class, so I canceled it. I went and did some anti-shopping at Bed, Bath, and Beyond (aka, the Triple B).
It was 9PM last night when Thor and I got back downtown from a day of errands and anti-gift registering, and we went to Sapphire for a bite. I ordered a glass of sparkling wine, bought myself a purple rose from a roving vendor, and was deciding what to order when a man came over trying to sell a $100 ticket for the in-progress Crosby, Stills, and Nash concert. Desperate, he offered it for $20, so I took Thor back to the car and ran to the Tennessee Theater for the second half of the show. I enjoyed the show and the Tennessee Theater.
So the hard part of dealing with the insurance company and getting money for my stuff is coming up with a list of the stuff. Stuff like furniture and computers electronics and whatnot is pretty easy. Stuff like fingernail clippers, note paper, and paper clips is much harder to remember, not to mention come up with prices for. What I did yesterday was to take a friend to Target and signed up for a gift registry.
Yesterday was a pretty good day. I went to Guy's Friday Breakfast. Just after my food arrived I noticed a text message received 45 minutes earlier from a friend saying that yes, he'd like a ride to breakfast. They stuck my food in the warmer and went and got him. Breakfast ensued. Good times were had by all.
Dear friends. As you probably have heard, my house burned down on September 7, 2010. Everyone got out of the house safely. The house is a total loss. My insurance coverage is not enough to replace all that I had, but it is quite sufficient to replace all that I need.
I already have more than enough clothes. I bought a few things and then a surprising number were saved. I already have more than will fit in my new suitcase.
