Yesterday was a pretty good day. I went to Guy's Friday Breakfast. Just after my food arrived I noticed a text message received 45 minutes earlier from a friend saying that yes, he'd like a ride to breakfast. They stuck my food in the warmer and went and got him. Breakfast ensued. Good times were had by all.
I then met with a gentleman from a company who specializes in helping people deal with insurance companies after fires. I'm still not quite where they are on the continuum between ambulance chaser and consumer advocate. Predictably, he claimed the latter, and then assured me that they didn't chase ambulances, only fire engines. Their fee is 15% of the claim. I told him that if the paperwork becomes overwhelming or that my insurance company is mistreating me, I'd give him a call.
I went to the office and signed some papers so that someone could get a PhD and copied the music from the server I salvaged to another hard drive. I went to the bookstore and borrowed a thing that let me copy the pictures from the hard drive that was is the laptop that died in the fire to my new laptop. I guess it's not too soon to come up with a system for managing photographs.
I got my hair cut. I returned a CD to the library (which took two trips, as the CD was at the office, and it's not the first time that I've tried to return that CD without both discs in the holder). I got a new library card.
I went to the St. Oliver Hotel and made a reservation for a suite overlooking Market Square for Sunday and Monday nights and forwarded the resulting email to the temporary housing people, who informed me that my temporary housing.
Then Thor and I went and had some lunch at the Brewery. I called and had the utilities transferred to my name. Some friends joined me, so I had to have another beer. Thor and I went and looked at guitars at Morelock Music for a while. I went down to Julie Apple Bags and had a beer with my infirmed friend before driving him back to his temporary housing.
I then went to a Knox Heritage event and a birthday party. All in all, a fine day.
At some point I'll need to start working and applying for jobs, but I'm sure I'll get there Real Soon Now.
